John Travolta made a movie that ruined his career

John Travolta is no exception and in fact, 21 years ago, he experienced the same thing to such a degree that his career took a drastic nosedive.

John Travolta made a movie that ruined his career

Travolta became an international star in 1978 for his breakout role in Grease as Danny Zuko and for the next few years, he dedicated himself to showing how versatile he was as an actor, as he was more than just the heartthrob.

His reputation grew thanks to Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction and at one point he found himself at the top enjoying fame and fortune like few have.

Travolta reached a point in his life where he could afford to accept or reject the roles he wanted no matter how good or bad the movie turned out on the big screen and one of his worst mistakes was accepting Battlefield Earth in 2000.

The science fiction feature film based on the novel by L. Ron Hubbard created in 1982, recounts how the planet Earth in the year 3000 lacks cities and countries where the common man is an endangered species.

Those who take advantage of this situation are the Psychlos, an alien race that seizes the world's natural resources and holds the earthlings, hostage.

Its leader named Terl, who is played by Travolta, is in charge of the operation to eliminate humans; However, the hero of the tape, Jonnie Tyler, will face them to end their tyranny.

Called a simple waste of time, Battlefield Earth has won several Razzie awards because experts and the public ended up hating it. After all, the adaptation is bad, the acting is banal and the special effects are worse. Roger Christian's feature film has a 3-point rating on Rotten Tomatoes!

Despite having the performances of Travolta and Forest Whitaker, another well-known Hollywood actor, it just didn't work and nobody liked it except for one person, its leading man.

In an interview during the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017, John was asked if he had any regrets in his career, including Battlefield Earth, to which he replied no:

"Are you kidding? Why would I regret that? I had the power to do whatever I wanted and I chose to do a book that I thought was worth making into a movie. It is a beautiful movie. It's a good movie… I don't regret it at all. And if we had to do it again, I still would. It was a moment where I was able to say, 'I have all the power in the world and I'll do whatever I want.' Not many people get that opportunity, and I did what I wanted to do."
