Netflix released the sequel to the action film that brings back the mercenary Tyler Rake
After escaping death in the first film, Chris Hemsworth returns as the mercenary Tyler Rake in Rescue Mission 2 (Extraction 2), a film that entered the Netflix global catalog on June 16. Based on the graphic novel City by Ande Parks and the Russo brothers, the sequel casts the hitman on a new high-risk assignment. Directing the project remains in the hands of Sam Hargrave, a filmmaker, and stuntman known for his work as a stunt coordinator for Marvel footage.
According to what its creator told the streaming service, the idea of producing a continuation arose after the positive response from the public in the test screenings of Rescue Mission. “The initial reactions were so positive that it changed the ending of the first movie,” Hargrave said. In fact, the initial proposal discussed with screenwriter Joe Russo agreed to a tragic outcome for Rake as an expression of his redemption arc. Public interest saved the troubled Tyler's life and ensured his return in a sequel that began preparations almost immediately after wrapping up the first installment of the feature film.
“Clinically dead, comatose, untamed: mercenary Tyler Rake barely survived his latest mission. But his most dangerous fight begins when he returns from the dead, ”says the Extraction 2 synopsis. This time, Hemsworth's assignment is to help a Georgian gangster and his family escape from prison. As the action hero (or anti-hero) dodges obstacles to achieve his goal, the story delves into Rake's past to explore how he came to the dangerous world where he works and how it affected his loved ones.
“The first film alludes to a deeply emotional event, a family tragedy, but—for most of the film—he remains a mysterious character. We feel a debt to the audience to shed more light on his motivations. Therefore, we will introduce new characters that will bring the focus to his past and we will learn more about his origins, ”adds Hargrave.
The cast of “Rescue Mission 2″
Chris Hemsworth leads the cast as Tyler Rake. In the sequel, we will also see Golsifteh Farahni (Body of Lies) as Nik Khan, one of Rake's closest confidantes. Likewise, Adam Bessa (Mosul) returns as Yaz, Nik's brother.
Zurab, the dangerous gangster from the Georgian ethnic group, is played by Tornike Gogrichiani; while Ketevan —the target that will 'extract' Rake— is the role that Tinatin Dalakishvili had.
