The first Mexican actress, Silvia Pinal, received a tribute in the Palace of Fine Artes Main Hall, organized by the Mexican government and the artist's family, in honor of her extensive career on stage.
The Ministry of Culture, the National Institute of Fine Arts, the National Cinematheque, the Mexican Institute of Cinematography, and the actress Sylvia Pasquel, daughter of Pinal, were responsible for the event, which brought together the Mexican artistic family.
Pinal was accompanied by her daughters Sylvia Pasquel and Alejandra Guzmán, as well as her granddaughters Stephanie Salas and Michelle Salas.
The actress Diana Bracho was in charge of giving the details of the tribute. She referred to the theatrical and film career of Silvia Pinal, about whom she highlighted that she explored all genres and has been deserving of multiple recognitions.
"Talking about you is talking about an artist who has been a pioneer in the film, theater, and art industries of our country," said Bracho, who referred to Viridiana, the iconic film by Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel that starred the Mexican.
“It was only when Francoism fell that we were able to see the film with this emblematic collaboration with Luis Buñuel, with whom he worked on more than one occasion on the exterminating angel and Simeon of the Desert, making her the true muse of the director”, she mentioned.
Following Bracho's words, actress Sylvia Pasquel presented a video about the life of her mother, who was awarded the Golden Ariel for her film legacy.
Personalities such as the actor Ignacio López Tarso, Norma Lazareno, and Sergio Corona gathered at the venue to participate in the event.
In addition, with the participation of Busi Cortés, film director and screenwriter, and film critics Leonardo García Tsao and José Antonio Valdés Peña, the discussion “Silvia Pinal, diva of national cinema” was held.
Subsequently, members of the National Symphony Orchestra, directed by maestro Emilio Aranda, presented the musical interpretation "Silvia Pinal, pioneer of musical theater."
Actresses and actors, as well as theater and film directors such as María Rojo, Alberto Estrella, Francisco Franco, Roberto D'amico, Oscar Carapia, and Álvaro Cueva,, read moving messages and told anecdotes about Pinal's career.
The general director of the National Institute of Fine Arts, Dr. Lucina Jiménez, recognized Silvia Pinal as a distinguished graduate of the National School of Theater Art because her legacy is a fundamental reference in the culture of Mexico.
For her part, the Secretary of Culture, Alejandra Frausto, assured that "the people have in Silvia Pinal one of her greatest idols." “She is part of the Mexican imagination for different generations, as an inspiring muse and as a protagonist of 20th-century culture,” she said.
When she intervened, Pinal thanked the tribute and said: "Oh mamacita, I feel so emotional at this moment, the people that I feel love me, the theater that I love."
