Being a legendary pop diva comes at a price, and Mariah Carey's decades-long career is proof of that. The billionaire singer has broken record after record with more than a dozen studio albums.
Over the years, Carey has become known for her diva tendencies, sequined gowns, enviable vocal range, songwriting skills that make even the savviest fans open a dictionary, and signature butterfly accessories. However, even one of the best divas in the industry has her moments.
In 2001, Carey appeared on MTV TRL, surprising then-host Carson Daly with a "Loverboy" T-shirt and pushing an ice cream truck on set. The singer then did an "impromptu striptease," according to Billboard, before going "on a jarring spiel about therapy." The outlet noted that Carey eventually checked into rehab for a collapse due to exhaustion, but of course, maintaining her legendary status, she landed the best-selling single of 2001 with "Loverboy."
To the delight of the lambs (Carey's most die-hard fans), Carey came back stronger than ever with the "longest running Hot 100 No. 1 single of the 21st century," "We Belong Together" in 2005, but it wasn't to be. It won't be long until the diva is faced with another on-air moment that fans are sure to not soon forget.
Mariah Carey's dress appeared on 'Good Morning America'
Just a few years after releasing her twelfth studio album, Memoirs of a Flawed Angel, Mariah Carey was met with a huge crowd of fans as the singer performed onstage for Good Morning America. Unfortunately for Carey, the timing was met with a minor glitch in her wardrobe.
During the 2013 GMA performance in New York City, Carey was chatting up host Lara Spencer in a bright pink Donatella Versace gown before abruptly saying, "Oh, shoot, now the back of my dress just blew up." !» (via The Hollywood Reporter). Spencer stepped in to help the star out, holding up Carey's dress while backstage staff came to hold down the artist's dress again. In true Carey fashion, the pop singer added, "I love you Donatella, but it blew up, honey." The show went commercial, giving the "Shake It Off" singer the chance to change into another dress to perform with R&B singer Miguel.
The on-air mishaps apparently didn't stop for Carey that day, who muttered an "oh crap" on live TV before joking to the audience, "You didn't hear that."
