When defending Captain Marvel, the actress Sarah Michelle Gellar had to endure criticism, but this is nothing new for the protagonist of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', since she has known how to deal with controversy since she was 5 years old.
Sarah Michelle Gellar has two sons and doesn't push them to become actors, just as it happened to her that she started her career in the industry at a very young age.
The wife of Freddie Prinze Jr. since 2002 is well remembered for her first roles in the films 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' (1997) and 'Cruel Intentions' (1999), as well as the series 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer ' (1997).
However, her career in front of the camera began long before those roles, since she was only 5 years old. Although her debut brought her problems that she never imagined.
Sarah Michelle Gellar from 'Buffy' was sued at age 5 by McDonald's
In a recent video with Buzzfeed UK, Sarah Michelle Gellar recalled her most iconic roles, such as 2002's 'Scooby-Doo', her current role in 'Wolf Pack', and also her debut at 5 years.
It was a commercial where the child actress says that McDonald's hamburgers are smaller than Burger King's. The commercial is only 30 seconds long, but mentioning her to McDonald's got him into trouble.
In the video Gellar says that she was the first person in a commercial campaign to say the name of a rival brand, so McDonald's responded with her legal team and went after the ad agency, Burger King, and her.
"This is very funny. This big campaign that I did for Burger King when I was 5 years old. I was the first person to name a competitor in a job... McDonald's turned to us... sued the ad agency, Burger King, and me at age 5."
The actress from 'Possession' (a movie that you can watch for free on ViX) commented that she didn't eat many hamburgers as a child, but when filming the commercial she did crave one because she saw them as perfect, being manufactured only for the advertising.
"When we were there, I just wanted a burger. I was so excited because my mom said I could have a burger. What I learned that day is that when they make the burgers for commercials, they glue every seed to it so it looks perfect and beautiful. ... then they lacquer and paint it. Friends, television is not real."
Although Gellar was not used to eating fast food, the McDonald's lawsuit did affect her because she was banned from her restaurant while the legal process was taking place, as she confessed to the Sunday Express newspaper in 2004.
"I wasn't allowed to eat there. It was hard because, when you're a little girl, McDonald's is where all your friends have their birthday parties, so I missed a lot of apple pies."
Gellar reappeared in another Burger King commercial in 1983 with her cute personality and wearing the same purple overalls and her pair of braids. The lawsuit was eventually settled in an out-of-court settlement.
