Grace Kelly's white skirt that is trending again

In the movie Rear Window, Grace Kelly wore an outfit that is still in use today. It was a design by the successful dressmaker Edith Head, winner of 8 Oscars for Best Costume Design.

Grace Kelly's white skirt that is trending again

Grace Kelly was a fashion pioneer within the principality of Monaco, but she already had a very admired style since she took her first steps in Hollywood. She could thus be seen in her successful mystery film Rear Window by Alfred Hitchcock, where she wore an incredible white skirt that became a trend again and was imposed by Lindsay Lohan in 2017.

The film was released in 1954 and focuses on a small building with large windows and balconies, from which everyone can see each other if they wish as long as they do not close the blinds. The story revolves around Jeff Jefferies (James Stewart), a man in a wheelchair who watches his neighbors from one of his windows.

Grace Kelly played Lisa Carol Fremont, Jeff's girlfriend, a beautiful and sophisticated young woman who visits him periodically. Rear Window won several awards and was also nominated for the Oscars for Best Director, Best Color Photography, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Sound.

The actress had a lot of praise for her performance and the costumes she used. One of her most remembered is a white skirt with a black blouse, designed by Edith Head, a dressmaker who worked for many years with Hollywood artists and was admired mainly for her elegant, but simple pieces.

The skirt is midi cut with wide layers of tulle that adjust at the waist from where black details fall. She wore open-heeled shoes and a blouse with a large front neckline and another in the back that exposed part of her back, undoubtedly a very sensual piece.

Lindsay Lohan was inspired by Grace Kelly

In fashion, everything comes back and current celebrities often draw inspiration from their predecessors when dressing. This was the case of former Disney star Lindsay Lohan, who paid tribute to Grace Kelly by attending the 2017 Cannes Film Festival with an outfit very similar to the one she wore in Rear Window.

The protagonist of "Game of Twins" wore an almost identical skirt: white tulle, and black details that fall from her waist, but the difference is that this skirt is long and she did not reveal her shoes. In addition, she had her hair up unlike the Princess of Monaco who already had short hair naturally.

Although it has been 68 years since Grace Kelly wore this look and 5 years since Lindsay Lohan paid tribute to it, it is still a fashion classic. It is perfect for a wedding or a gala event and can be combined with a crop top to leave part of the abdomen exposed.

A year after Rear Window was released, the late actress met Raniero III while filming the film "The Swan." It was only a few months until they became engaged and started a family, and until the last day of his life, the Prince of Monaco could never get over the loss of his wife.
