Margot Robbie and her scene with DiCaprio was torture

Margot Robbie left Australia and came to the United States to try to become a Hollywood actress. She participated in different small productions until, in 2013, she got the audition that would put her on the big screen. She auditioned for “The Wolf of Wall Street,” alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and opposite Martin Scorsese.

Margot Robbie and her scene with DiCaprio was torture

In the scene, she was supposed to argue with Leo, and in an attempt to do something impressive, she started yelling at him. Leo responded with more screams and Margot was scared. “I got very close to his face and thought about kissing him. When else am I going to get the chance to kiss Leo DiCaprio? But then I decided to punch him in the face and that wasn't in the script at all. The room went silent and I froze,” says the actress.

Clearly, her drive worked in her favor, as at that point, Scorsese decided to cast her in the role of Naomi Lapaglia. To prepare for the film, Margot had to learn to speak with the distinctive Brooklyn accent and take ballroom dancing classes.

At certain moments in the film, Margot and Leonardo have some slightly risque scenes. “You don't see it when you see the film, but in reality we were all stuck in a room, me along with 30 men from the production team,” explains the actress. It was a 17-hour job, where they had to repeat it over and over again.

“It's a very strange thing and you have to bury the shame and absurdity very deeply and commit 100%,” she continued. She made fans understand that she was so nervous, that she had to resort to certain tranquilizers. Also, Margot lied to her family about using doubles for those scenes, since talking about it with them made her completely blush.

From the Australian's first audition, Leo DiCaprio already knew that she had a bright future ahead of her. He realized that when they filmed the Belfort water fight. “We were impressed by how much she gave to the scene, we knew immediately that she was going to have an incredible career,” commented the film's protagonist.

In different interviews, Margot expressed her gratitude for starring in the film and having DiCaprio's guidance. During the filming of the film, she and her co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio, became very good friends and often spent time together off-set.

During the recording, the professional had some setbacks. For example, during the scene on the cash mattress, her papers ended up hurting her. “I have a million paper cuts on my back from all that money! It’s not as glamorous as it seems,” she explained.

In the end, the film was a huge success and Margot Robbie's role as Naomi Lapaglia allowed her to stand out in the film industry. She has mentioned in interviews that she highly values Martin Scorsese and that working with him was an enriching experience that helped her grow as an actress. She proved to be up to the task and that is why today we see her succeed in Hollywood.
