Shakira opens her heart and talks about her most vulnerable side as a single mother

Since the news broke that Shakira and Gerard Piqué's relationship had come to an end, the singer has taken the bull by the horns.

Shakira opens her heart and talks about her most vulnerable side as a single mother

Whether through her songs or in statements to the press, the Colombian has not hesitated to be transparent about her love situation. And, although the details she has told about her ex-partner are quite a few, she has rarely said so much about her life with her young children, now that she has begun a new stage as a single mother.

When Shakira herself brought to light details of her separation in the lyrics of her hit song with BZRP, Music Sessions #53, speculation was the order of the day. And, although she revealed much of what was going on behind closed doors in her relationship with the soccer player, she remained hermetic about the future that her children would face.

Both she and Piqué preferred to take the battle for the custody of Milan and Sasha to the legal level, while the world witnessed the dozens of hints that rained from both sides.

In those moments, Shakira seemed immune to pain. In each appearance, she looked radiant and empowered, even in court, at the time of signing the custody agreement and thus taking a definitive step towards the end of what the couple one day believed would last forever.

However, behind that kind face that she put on, a great concern was hidden that did not leave the singer alone. Her children were in the eye of the hurricane and it hurt her that they were going through that situation: “It has been difficult not only for me, but also for my children. Incredibly difficult. I have tried to hide the situation from my children. “I try to protect them because that is my priority in life.”

For her, it was like a broken dream and in those moments she began to feel the weight of having to lift not only herself, but her family on her shoulders, as many women have to do: “I think of all those women all over the world. world who are going through difficulties, through a situation as difficult as mine or worse. But I think that women have this innate resilience. And we are meant to care for those who depend on us.”

The question that remained was if Shakira was carrying the world on her back, who was supporting her during that difficult period? At first, the singer did not give many details about the people she had counted on to help her get through that bitter pill, but she did refer to her colleagues, who had lent her a helping hand, among them, Chris Martin, vocalist of Coldplay, and Juan Luis Guerra.

“Luckily I have found an incredible and human side in people who I thought were in my life solely because of the work we do together, but no, these people really have empathy. Dear friends who not only care about me as an artist, but as a person, as a human being.”

However, recently, Shakira has opened her heart even further, taking us to the core of her family and her closest circle. In her acceptance speech for the Woman of the Year award given to her by the Billboard Latin Women in Music, the Barranquilla native expressed her deep gratitude towards those pillars that have sustained her and motivated her to continue.

“The most important lessons I have learned this year have been learned from other women, but there is a very special woman for me, who has inspired me more than anyone: My mother. Mommy, despite the difficulties you have faced this year, you continue to stand with your limitless love and your resilience.”

For her mother, Nidia Ripoll, she was the main recognition of her, but she did not stop there. With a broken voice, she moved towards her most beloved female references until she reached her friends, whom she highlighted, in a very special way: “You, my friends, have supported me when my legs weaken.”

Finally, Shakira showed that she feels empathy for women who, due to life circumstances, must take on the difficult task of raising their children without their partner by their side: “This recognition is for all single mothers who defend and protect their children like lionesses.” And she reminded the women: “We are braver than we think we are and we are also more independent than we were taught to be.”
