The story of Melissa McCarthy, who married her weird best friend

These talented people love to work together: they shoot movies, write scripts, and run a production company. But the main thing is that Melissa and Ben support each other in everything they do and try to spend as much time together as possible.

Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone met at a party. At the time, Melissa was a college student and Ben was still in high school. Falcone confessed that he was afraid of McCarthy because she wore a black cape, she had blue hair, and she looked “very, very gothic,” so they didn't even say a word to each other. They met again in Los Angeles at The Groundlings school 10 years later. “We were friends from day one,” recalls the actress.

In 2003, McCarthy and Falcone starred together in an episode of the series Gilmore Girls. It is unknown when they began dating, but they married in 2005.

Falcone believes they are very lucky to have each other: “We were hit with the same stick of luck. From the first time we spoke, we were on the same page. We love each other, respect each other, and try not to sweat the small things. And we make each other laugh.”

In January 2007, the actress revealed that she was expecting her first baby. She joked that she hoped her son would have many of Ben's calm traits and fewer of his rowdy ones. Her daughter, Vivian, came into this world in May of the same year. According to McCarthy, Vivian looks a lot like her. 3 years later, the couple had their second daughter, Georgette.

5 months after giving birth to her second daughter, the 39-year-old actress confessed that this pregnancy had taken away all her energy because she could only sleep 3.5 to 4 hours a day. “I'm super round and super tired. My husband says it's like he's married to a 90-year-old because I tune out mid-sentence. He says, 'You were in the middle of a thought and then you stopped talking. I turned around and you were fast asleep on the couch.

Despite all the difficulties of upbringing, Melissa and Ben never forgot their acting career and, in 2011, they worked on their first joint film, the comedy Ladies in War. For her role in this film, McCarthy was nominated for an Oscar, but she lost to Octavia Spencer.

But this was not their last project together. In 2013, the spouses founded a production company, and a year later they wrote the script for the film Tammy. The actress was glad that they dared to take this step: “We have been writing together for longer than we have been married. Being able to produce our own work and that of other people, which is something we are so passionate about, is truly a dream come true.”

Melissa and Ben try to support each other through everything. In 2017, Falcone wrote and published the book Being a Dad is Strange: Fatherhood Lessons from My Family to Yours. McCarthy wrote the introduction to the book.

Spouses love to work together. When McCarthy was asked what it was like making movies with her husband, she responded, “It's like you can go to work with your best friend.”

Even though the spouses have been together for many years, they have never stopped surprising each other. On Valentine's Day, for example, McCarthy gave Falcone a heart-shaped box filled with deviled eggs. The thing is, Ben doesn't like chocolate, but he loves deviled eggs.

And to celebrate her 13th wedding anniversary, Melissa gave her husband a senior cell phone that had huge buttons. The actress confessed that her daughters were horrified by this gift. “He gave me 2 beautiful rings, one of them said 'Love'. And I gave him a phone for the elderly. I have to work on my romantic skills,” Melissa said.

In 2020, the couple celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary. Not long before this date, Melissa said in an interview that she “hit the jackpot” when she met her future husband. According to the actress, the key to a solid relationship is the ability to make your partner laugh: “he makes me laugh like crazy 4 or 5 times a day.”

Ben Falcone shares his wife's opinion. He also believes that humor changes everything. “Melissa makes everything fun, just being herself. "I'm such a lucky guy to be married to someone so smart, kind, beautiful, and crazy funny."
