In a remarkable display of unity, Bruce Willis' family, including his ex-wife, actress Demi Moore, his current wife, Emma Heming, and his three adult daughters, have come together as the steadfast "Ladies of Willis/Moore" to share a significant update about their beloved family member's health.
Their collective strength aims to support the actor as he faces this latest medical challenge, and they hope that their solidarity contributes to improving his quality of life.
According to their joint statement, the 67-year-old Hollywood icon has received a diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Less than a year ago, Willis had stepped away from the career that had meant so much to him due to aphasia, a brain disorder that led to a decline in his language abilities.
The family also revealed that his condition has progressed. Frontotemporal dementia impacts the brain's frontal and temporal lobes, responsible for regulating emotions, behavior, problem-solving, and planning. Some of its signs include personality changes, obsessive behavior, and speech difficulties. While the news has undoubtedly been painful, the clear diagnosis provides them with a sense of relief.
"Bruce has always believed in using his voice to make a difference in the world, advocating for important issues both publicly and privately," the family expressed in their statement. Their collective intention is not only to shed light on the disease but also to highlight that, for individuals under the age of 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and currently, there is no known treatment.
"As Bruce's illness progresses, we hope that media attention will help raise awareness and support research for this condition in desperate need of more attention," his family added.
