Kaley Cuoco reflects on her insight into the eventual conclusion of 'The Big Bang Theory.'
After an unbroken 12-season run, the beloved show bid farewell in 2019 due to Jim Parsons, who portrayed Sheldon Cooper, opting to part ways for personal reasons. While Parsons elucidated the factors behind his departure, Kaley Cuoco sheds light on the pivotal meeting that unfolded with the entire cast.
During an interview with Variety, where she discussed her work on 'The Flight Attendant,' Kaley Cuoco shared the moment when she learned about the show's impending conclusion. The actress, known for her role as Penny, recounted that they were summoned for a meeting by Chuck Lorre, the series' creator, during the summer of 2018.
At that time, the twelfth season was already in production, and Cuoco anticipated the meeting to center around discussions of a potential thirteenth season. In fact, she had previously spoken with Jonny Galecki, who played Leonard, about their desire to continue. However, this hope was dashed as Jim Parsons had different plans.
Reflecting on the encounter, Cuoco recalled, "Jim said, 'I don't think he can continue.' And I was so shocked that he was literally like, 'Continue with what?' Like, I didn't even know what he was talking about. I looked at Chuck: 'Wow. I thought we were... I'm so impressed now.'"
Confronted with this unexpected turn of events, Chuck Lorre made the decision to conclude the series, emphasizing his commitment to unity among the cast. Lorre stated, "We are all for one and one for all. I am not going to do this without the entire team." Kaley Cuoco and her fellow lead actors concurred, though she admitted that the meeting left her in a state of astonishment, and the cast shed tears as they bid farewell to 'The Big Bang Theory.'
What Prompted the Conclusion of 'The Big Bang Theory'?
A few months prior, Jim Parsons had confessed to feeling profoundly exhausted when the twelfth season commenced filming. Coupled with this, he felt a strong need to spend more time with one of his ailing dogs, who was in the final stage of its life.
Parsons revealed that he had signed a two-year contract and had an inkling that this would mark the end of the line. Moreover, the actor was simultaneously engaged in a play in New York, and the strenuous workload took a considerable toll on his well-being. Following the loss of his pet, the actor, who portrayed Sheldon Cooper, suffered a foot injury in an accident, which plunged him into a dark period marked by uncertainty about his future.
In 2019, 'The Big Bang Theory' ultimately reached its conclusion, and today all twelve seasons are exclusively available for streaming on HBO Max, the streaming service that also boasts the rights to the 'Friends' reunion.
