Brooke Shields also said that the musician tried to kiss her by force in front of photographers
Actress and model Brooke Shields classified the behavior of her friend Michael Jackson (1958-2009) as “pathetic” when he lied about an alleged relationship between the two. The lie was told by the actor in the early 1990s, in an interview with presenter Oprah Winfrey. The 57-year-old celebrity regretted his friend's speech in a recent interview with the British newspaper The Times.
Shields was 28 and in a relationship with actor Dean Cain when Jackson told Oprah he was dating her.
The artist said about what happened: “I called him and said, 'it's kind of pathetic that you need to do this. I’m trying to have a normal life, you can’t throw me into this hurricane’.”
According to Shields, after hearing her scolding, Jackson just laughed and changed the subject. In the interview, she emphasized that she never had any romantic relationship with the musician.
“There was one time when we were in a car, with a bunch of photographers [outside] and he held me to kiss me, I said, ‘No! Stop! We are just friends and you need me as your friend.”
She closed on Jackson by saying: “I remember the beginning [of Jackson's career], when other actresses were after him and he was still cute, before the transformation. But he never crossed my mind [a relationship with the musician].”
Despite her tensions with her friend, Shields attended Jackson's funeral in 2009. She was on stage at the ceremony to talk about her friendship with him and sang in the company of the artist's family at the end of the celebration.
Shields gave the interview about her relationship with Michael Jackson amid the release of a documentary about her life and career, 'Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields'. The actress is the mother of Rowan (19 years old) and Grier (16 years old), both born in her marriage to businessman Chris Henchy.
