Jennifer Lawrence Opens Up About Confronting Anderson Cooper Over Oscars Fall Claim

The actress, who stumbled while ascending the stairs to accept her Best Actress award, discussed the incident on Heather McMahan's 'Absolutely Not' podcast.

Recalling the moment, Lawrence expressed her preparedness for winning the Oscar for her role in 'Silver Linings Playbook.' Despite feeling nervous and superstitious, she had refrained from acknowledging the possibility of winning or preparing a speech. However, when her name was called, and she fell, Lawrence described her mind going blank.

Although she can now look back at the fall "with fondness," she admitted that the incident was sensitive for a long time. The actress took the stage after the fall and humorously addressed the audience, thanking them for standing and acknowledging the embarrassment.

The situation took a more distressing turn when Jennifer Lawrence saw Anderson Cooper on CNN a few days later, suggesting that she had faked the fall. The actress found this accusation devastating, considering the humiliation she had experienced. In response, Lawrence confronted Cooper at a Christmas party, expressing her dissatisfaction.

Recounting the confrontation, Lawrence mentioned that she approached Cooper, letting him know how hurtful his claim had been. She vividly remembered her intense emotions, with her friend noting that a vein was protruding from her eyes. Cooper immediately apologized, and Lawrence believes they are now good friends.

During the confrontation, Lawrence questioned Cooper, asking if he had ever tried walking up stairs in a party dress. According to the 'Red Sparrow' star, Cooper promptly apologized and offered a sincere explanation, indicating that he didn't know the circumstances. Lawrence acknowledged the apology and humorously speculated that Cooper might have shared with others that she was a "psychopath."

This incident wasn't the first time Jennifer Lawrence attributed the fall to her dress. Previously, she mentioned to reporters that climbing stairs in her dress proved challenging and attributed the fall to stepping on the fabric, possibly exacerbated by waxed stairs.

In sharing this candid conversation, Jennifer Lawrence sheds light on the vulnerability and challenges that come with fame, emphasizing the importance of addressing misconceptions and standing up for oneself.
