Charlotte poses very smiling, with her hair down and a relaxed pose, resting her arm on a flowering bush. For such a special day, the young woman wears a denim skirt, a flowered shirt covered by a dark blue sweater and a red jacket.
"Happy ninth birthday, Princess Charlotte," says the message that Kensington Palace included next to the photo.
"Thank you all for your kind messages today," she adds before confirming that the image was indeed taken by Kate Middleton, retired from public life due to her cancer treatment.
Charlotte's photo was highly applauded by Internet users, who continue to appear on the Instagram account of the Princes of Wales.
