Social media has been buzzing with humorous remarks likening Prince Harry to African royalty after a snapshot captured him receiving a picture of Princess Diana during engagements at a school and meetings at Nigeria's defense headquarters.
After these engagements, the couple proceeded to Katuna state, where Governor Sani and other government officials warmly greeted them. Governor Sani presented Harry with a framed portrait of Diana holding him as a child, along with another portrait of him and Meghan on their wedding day, alongside other gifts. They also dressed him in traditional house attire, adding to the cultural exchange.
Responding to the picture of Harry on social media, one person joked about them adopting "Henry L," while another quipped that Prince Harry is now a Nigerian prince. However, many pointed out that the picture was simply part of a traditional ceremony, with Harry dressed in Nigerian attire called "agbada."
Nevertheless, Harry and Meghan's attempts to blend in didn't fool educated Nigerians. The cousin of the Nigerian King even shared her thoughts on a YouTube video, and it wasn't favorable. "Donu Kmara," in her YouTube video, expressed disbelief at the news of Harry and Meghan's visit, echoing sentiments found in both Nigerian and foreign newspapers.
She questioned the excitement surrounding the visit, citing personal reservations about royalty in the 21st century, both in Europe and Nigeria, where her family has ties. She also expressed skepticism about Harry and Meghan, believing that Meghan may have exaggerated issues within the royal family and media due to a preference for Hollywood glamour over royal duties. She criticized the couple's public airing of family grievances, especially during Prince Philip's illness, and their treatment of Meghan's father, which she deemed disrespectful.
Increasingly, Nigerians are voicing dissent and disdain towards Prince Harry and Meghan, contrary to their PR efforts. Many view their trip as tarnishing their image rather than enhancing it. They see the couple as opportunistic, exploiting people of color for their own gain while pretending to be royalty and dignitaries. This perception has fueled anger and frustration, with many hoping that their façade will be exposed, revealing the true nature of their actions.
