Sir Michael Stevens confirmed their departure, noting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had vacated Frogmore Cottage. They financed the Sovereign Grant's repairs, significantly enhancing the property's value.
Following this decision, the Sussexes lacked a UK residence, relying on accommodations from hotels, friends, or acquaintances during their visits. According to Royal author Tom Quinn, the Duke perceived this eviction as a profound blow, expressing heartbreak and tears over the King's decision.
