Prince Harry has confirmed the timing of his next visit to the United Kingdom following the recent loss of his High Court appeal concerning his security arrangements.
In the legal challenge, he requested the restoration of his publicly funded protection, but the court sided with the Home Office. As a result, he will continue to receive security only on a case-by-case basis during visits to the U.K.
Despite this legal setback, Harry has announced that he will return to the U.K. in July 2027 for the Invictus Games, which will be hosted in Birmingham. Although this is the only confirmed date, there remains a possibility that he could travel to the country sooner for other reasons.
The decision to hold the games in Birmingham was made public in July 2024, with the official dates revealed recently. According to the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 social media page, the event will take place from the 10th to the 17th of July, beginning with an opening ceremony on the 10th and concluding with a closing ceremony on the 17th.
Prince Harry launched the Invictus Games after being inspired by the Warrior Games in Colorado in 2013, where he saw the positive impact of adaptive sports on injured American service members. The inaugural Invictus Games took place in 2014 and have since been held in various cities, including Sydney, Orlando, and most recently, Whistler and Vancouver, which hosted the first-ever winter edition.
This announcement followed Harry’s reflections on the recent court ruling regarding his security. He expressed concerns about returning to the U.K. with his family, citing ongoing tensions. He shared that he could not imagine bringing his wife and children back under the current circumstances and acknowledged the strain in his family relationships. Still, he emphasized his desire for reconciliation, stating that life is too short for continued conflict.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to the United States with Meghan Markle, Harry has only returned to the U.K. for important occasions, typically for short stays.
