Meghan Markle is gearing up for the release of her new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, a cooking-themed show set to premiere on January 15th.
However, members of the British Royal Family reportedly have little interest in the Duchess of Sussex’s latest venture, according to sources close to the palace. Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield recently disclosed that Prince William and Kate Middleton remain unfazed by Meghan’s upcoming project. In fact, they appear to view her as a "background character in a chapter of royal history that has already concluded." This sentiment reflects the ongoing distance between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the senior royals.
Speaking on her podcast, To Di For Daily, Schofield explained, "I’ve been told that the Prince and Princess of Wales have no personal interest in Meghan’s future endeavors. A palace insider emphasized that she no longer occupies any meaningful space in their thoughts or concerns."
The source went on to highlight that the couple’s approach is to minimize any potential distractions. "William and Kate do not consider Meghan ‘worth the mental real estate.’ They’ve made it clear that their focus is on their duties and responsibilities as working members of the monarchy," Schofield elaborated.
In a further indication of their indifference, the palace reportedly plans to delegate the task of monitoring Meghan’s Netflix series to a lower-ranking staff member. "This individual will be responsible for watching the show in real-time, purely to keep the palace communications office informed of any notable content," Schofield added.
Unlike traditional practices for such productions, Netflix has not provided advance screeners of the series to the palace or other parties. This means that any revelations or criticisms in the show will be seen simultaneously by both the royal household and the general public.
Addressing the content of the show itself, Schofield remarked, "The palace courtiers see the theme of the show as frivolous and celebrity-centric. However, there’s a sense of relief that Meghan appears to be focusing on lifestyle and entertainment rather than revisiting past grievances or launching new critiques against the institution."
The upcoming series, which marks Meghan’s return to the public spotlight in a creative capacity, has been described as a blend of personal anecdotes and culinary inspiration. While fans of the Duchess may eagerly anticipate its release, it seems the Royal Family has chosen to keep their attention firmly on matters closer to home.
