Prince William and Princess Katherine are set to rekindle their friendly rugby rivalry as they prepare for their next joint engagement.
The couple will attend the highly anticipated Wales versus England Six Nations match at the Principality Stadium on Saturday, March 15th. This marks Kate Middleton's first attendance at such an event since her cancer diagnosis, making the occasion particularly significant. As dedicated supporters of the sport, their competitive spirit is well known, with Prince William serving as the patron of the Welsh Rugby Union and Princess Katherine holding the patronage of the Rugby Football Union.
Both royals have long shared a passion for rugby, even making a memorable joint appearance with Princess Anne on Mike Tindall’s podcast, The Good, The Bad, and The Rugby, alongside co-hosts James Haskell and Alex Payne. During their conversation, they reminisced about playing rugby in their younger years, with Kate teasing William about his school days in the sport.
"I love rugby; I played at school and loved it," William remarked, to which Kate playfully responded, "Did you?" Their shared enthusiasm for the game has been evident through the years, with William inheriting the Welsh Rugby Union patronage from Queen Elizabeth II in 2016, while Kate was appointed patron of the Rugby Football Union last year after Prince Harry relinquished the role as part of the Sussexes' departure from royal duties.
The upcoming match adds to a long history of rugby events attended by the couple. In 2007, during the early days of their relationship, they joined Prince Harry to watch England take on Italy in a Six Nations match at Twickenham. They later returned to the stadium in 2015 for the Rugby World Cup clash between England and Wales. More recently, in 2022, Prince George accompanied his parents to a Six Nations match, and in 2023, William and Kate were once again present to witness the intense Wales versus England showdown.
