Sarah Jessica Parker, widely known for her iconic portrayal of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City, recently reflected on one of the series’ most defining relationships.
While promoting the third season of And Just Like That, the revival of the beloved 1998 romantic comedy, Parker shared candid insights into Carrie’s complicated romance with Mr. Big, portrayed by Chris Noth.
Describing the relationship, she noted its complexity, calling it both “romantic and a disaster,” as well as “destructive and healthy.” She admitted that the storyline was emotionally intense, especially when it came to the loss of Mr. Big in the first episode of the reboot. For her, the character’s death was deeply challenging to portray, not only from a professional standpoint but also on a personal level. She likened the loss to removing a vital artery, emphasizing how integral that relationship had been to the fabric of the story.
Parker confessed that saying goodbye to Mr. Big’s character was genuinely heartbreaking. Though she didn’t feel dependent on the role for her own well-being, she acknowledged the depth and richness of the story they had created together over the years.
In the continuation of the series, Parker returned alongside co-stars Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon. However, Kim Cattrall chose not to return, having expressed dissatisfaction with her role and a lack of fulfillment from the experience.
Reflecting on the evolving narrative of life and art, Parker concluded with a sentiment that resonates with both fans and storytellers alike: life is a story we write each day, and when it takes an unexpected turn, we can always choose to embrace a new chapter.
