Prince William Reveals He Once Dreamed of Becoming a DJ or Police Officer
Prince William has revealed that his career ambitions were very different from his future role as King of the United Kingdom. During a surprise appearance on The Graham Norton Show, the Prince of Wales shared that he once dreamed of becoming a police officer and even considered pursuing a career as a DJ.
The royal's unexpected confession came during an appearance on the popular BBC talk show, which is scheduled to air on Friday evening. His remarks offered a rare glimpse into the alternative career paths he imagined before preparing for his responsibilities as the future monarch.
Prince William Opens Up About His Childhood Career Dreams
Wearing a dark suit and appearing relaxed, Prince William joined the programme to promote the Earthshot Prize, the environmental initiative he launched in 2020 to support innovative solutions to global environmental challenges. The winner of the 2026 awards is scheduled to be announced on November 17 in Mumbai, India.
The show's producers described William's appearance as a "historic night." Before his visit, Sarah Ferguson, the former wife of Prince Andrew, was the only other member of the British Royal Family to have appeared on the programme, back in 2009.
William took his place on the show's famous red sofa alongside Australian actress Cate Blanchett, British performer Hannah Waddingham, and environmental advocate Robert Irwin. All three guests have connections to the Earthshot Prize and its environmental mission.
During the conversation, the Prince of Wales reflected on the career he might have pursued if his royal destiny had been different. He revealed that becoming a police officer was once a serious ambition.
"I really wanted to be a police officer when I was younger. I thought I'd make a good police officer," William explained.
He also recalled a period when he considered working as a DJ. Although neither profession became his career, the revelation showed a more personal side of the future king and offered an amusing contrast to his present-day royal duties.
Prince William Shares His Love of Films and Christopher Nolan
Beyond discussing his childhood ambitions, William spoke about the television programmes and films he enjoys watching with his family. He revealed that The Graham Norton Show is a favourite in their household, with his children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, particularly enthusiastic about it.
"I love it; the whole family loves it. Charlotte and Louis are obsessed with it. It's top-tier television," he said.
When asked how he likes to unwind, William highlighted his interest in music and cinema. He explained that he enjoys watching films that encourage viewers to think more deeply about their stories and themes.
The Prince also revealed his admiration for acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan, singling out the director's The Dark Knight trilogy as a particular favourite. His comments offered another insight into his interests outside official engagements and public appearances.
Prince William's Recent Appearances in the Spotlight
The appearance on The Graham Norton Show follows another notable media outing earlier in the year. In July, William appeared on a popular podcast hosted by NFL star Travis Kelce, shortly before Kelce's wedding to singer Taylor Swift.
During that conversation, William shared another personal detail about his family, revealing that his father, King Charles III, "detests football."
These appearances have allowed the Prince of Wales to connect with audiences beyond traditional royal engagements. By discussing his personal interests, family life, and youthful ambitions, William has offered a more informal perspective on his life as a senior royal.
Although his future responsibilities are firmly tied to the British monarchy, his latest comments reveal that he once imagined a very different professional future.
