Harry Doesn't Want William and the King's Forgiveness, He's Defying the Crown
Royal expert says Prince Harry's message of reconciliation is a challenge to the monarchy
Prince Harry wants to put his differences with his family behind him and rebuild his relationship with his father, King Charles III, and his brother, Prince William, according to his latest statements. However, his call for reconciliation has not been received as he expected.
Royal biographer Hugo Vickers believes his public statements can be interpreted as a "challenge" to the monarchy, rather than an attempt to make peace. This is what he had to say about Harry's statements.
For context, during an interview with GQ magazine, Harry asserted that reconciliation is essential, especially given everything that is happening in the world. He also acknowledged that family problems are something many people can relate to and made his position clear regarding wanting to reconcile with his family, even though there are people who don't want it to happen.
Regarding this, Vickers told Page Six that Charles and William have chosen to remain silent and believes that the differences should be resolved privately, without further statements to the media, as Harry has done since moving to the United States with his wife and now upon his return to the United Kingdom.
According to Vickers, although Harry may not be trying to provoke his family, his actions can send a different message. Vickers questioned the recent public appearances of the prince and Meghan Markle in the UK, including their first joint visit to Nottingham.
“Even if Harry doesn’t intend his actions to be a challenge, they will inevitably be interpreted that way, and that’s unfortunate,” said the author of the book Queen Elizabeth II: A Personal History.
He added: “For the public, Harry is a distraction. His presence risks creating the impression that he poses a challenge to the monarchy.” “He has complicated the situation considerably, and he alone is to blame,” he stated.
According to the royal expert, these engagements have led the public to believe that the Sussexes are resuming royal duties, despite having stepped down as working members of the monarchy in 2020 and despite the King's statements regarding the couple's status as private citizens not linked to the Crown.
The relationship with his older brother appears to be one of the biggest obstacles to reconciliation.
According to Vickers, the heir to the throne isn't necessarily acting in a hostile manner toward his brother, but he has many responsibilities, including his family and concerns for the health of Charles III and his wife, Kate Middleton. A palace source quoted by Page Six asserted that William wants no contact with Harry and maintains a firm stance.
