The Colombian joins Dua Lipa and Rod Stewart in declining the invitation to Qatar for its human rights policy
A few days ago it was announced that Shakira would perform at the opening ceremony of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, however, sources close to the singer confirmed that she will not be present at the sporting event.
In case the Colombian's attendance has been confirmed, it would represent another World Cup where she would have a stellar participation since she made her debut in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, where she performed "Hips Don't Lie", later we saw her in South Africa in 2010 with the song “Waka Waka” and in Brazil in 2014 with “La la la”.
Although a Shakira show is ruled out, Spanish media also assured that the organizers did extend the invitation to the singer-songwriter, however, the interpreter of "Te Felicito" and "Monotonía" rejected it because of her human rights policy.
Dua Lipa and Rod Stewart were other artists who refused to participate in the sporting event as a form of protest against scandals about corruption, mistreatment of immigrant workers, the prohibition of the sale of alcohol and the rights of women and the LGBT+ community in the host country.
