In an interview when asked directly whether Wagner was "responsible" for the death of Wood, who drowned in the Pacific when he was 43 years old, Captain Dennis Davern replied: 'Yes, I I would say yes.

"Was it a fight between Natalie Wood and her husband, Robert Wagner, that ultimately led to her death?" Davern was also asked, to which he replied: "Yes."

In November 1981, he was the captain of the yacht called 'The Splendour', in which Wood was sailing near Catalina Island (California) in the company of Wagner and fellow actor Christopher Walken, with whom she had just filmed 'Brainstorm'. '.

Davern now acknowledges that she lied then and today confessed: "I made mistakes by not telling the truth in the police report."

Without going into further detail and arguing that everything is now in the hands of investigators, Davern also suggested that Wagner did nothing to look for Wood when he discovered that the actress was not on the yacht.

'Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendor'

The captain had already broken his silence about the case in the book 'Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendor', which he wrote together with his friend Marti Rulli and which was published in 2009.

In that book, Davern also maintains that Wood's death was the direct result of a fight with Wagner, whom he first married in 1957 and divorced in 1962, although in 1972 the two resumed their relationship and their daughter, Courtney, he was born two years later.

However, it is now that the Los Angeles Police has announced that it will reopen the case, after receiving new information.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore explained on Thursday that new information had been received in the case, without providing more information, and this Friday there will be a press conference about it.

Meanwhile, a Wagner spokesman, Alan Nierob, issued a statement on Friday: "Although no one in the Wagner family has been informed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office about this matter, they fully support the efforts" to clarify the death of Wood.

In addition, the Wagner family "trusts" that it will evaluate whether the new information related to the death of the actress "is valid" and if it comes from a "credible source" or from "others who simply try to take advantage of the 30th anniversary of his tragic death."
