For about 20 years, Angelina Jolie has been doing everything she can to help refugees, fight poverty and preserve nature. All this, added to the fact that she never forgot how to be a loving mother.
We at Bright Side admire all the good things this famous actress has done for our world and we want to tell you a little about her story.
It all started with Lara Croft
In the year 2000, Angelina Jolie traveled to Cambodia to record the movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. The country was in a humanitarian crisis, which left a huge mark on the young actress. She began conducting her research on trouble spots around the world and her refugees. Later, she visited more than 30 countries, providing humanitarian aid to people in need and donating money. Angelina was even appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).
Angelina Jolie loves nature as much as she loves humanity.
Angelina adopted her first child from a Cambodian orphanage. Her wish was to maintain connections for him with her legacy, so she bought a house in this country. It turned out that the property was next to the Samlout National Park, where poachers entered and became a real threat to endangered species. Angelina decided to buy the 60,000 hectares of this park and created a beautiful wildlife reserve. It was named The Maddox Jolie Project, and today is known as the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
The Cambodian government could not allow her actions to go unnoticed and she granted her Cambodian citizenship.
Angelina Jolie Helps Refugees
Since Angelina joined UNHCR in 2001, she has worked consistently over the years to help those most in need. One of these groups is refugees. She goes to her camps in different countries, improves their living conditions, and provides humanitarian aid and support for their development. She also helps build schools and health institutions for displaced refugees and returnees.
For example, in 2010, Angelina donated $75,000 and opened a primary school for girls in Tangi, Afghanistan. She was concerned that girls would not have the opportunity to get a proper basic education, as there were no facilities for it, and this is not the only school she has opened in this country.
Angelina Jolie Supports many different fundamentals
Angelina tirelessly fights for opportunities to improve the lives of all people from different walks of life. Not only do refugees catch her eye, but she also focuses on raising money to help fight cancer and strives to eliminate extreme poverty. Along with other famous people, Angelina supports vulnerable children and orphans by providing them with essential services such as health, education, and psycho-social support.
In total, Jolie was involved with around 29 different foundations and organizations aimed at providing peace, education, and health support.
Angelina Jolie always fights for women's rights
She not only helps displaced people, but she also cares for women who have suffered S- violence in war zones. She considers it important to eradicate this because this abuse destroys the lives of women, their families, and their communities. In her effort to protect women, she launched the S- Violence Prevention Initiative, to investigate and take action against S- violence.
Angelina Jolie reminds women to take care of their health
The actress lost her mother and her aunt to breast cancer. Unfortunately, Angelina also had a high chance of developing this disease. She made up her mind and underwent a preventative double mastectomy. She did not want her children to experience the pain of losing her mother to illness. After this, Jolie spoke openly, discussing her surgery and experience and trying to encourage women to get tested early.
Angelina Jolie doesn't hesitate to donate to charities, no matter how much they need.
In 2008, Angelina was expecting twins, and everyone was very excited about it. Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt were born in August of that year, and several magazines tried to get exclusive, first-hand photos of their children. People and HELLO! they decided to team up and buy the photos for $14 million. This money was donated directly to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
