Revolution
Revolution is undoubtedly the current fiction that touches us more closely. The ones in the cover photo are the Matheson family and some of the friends they make along the way, protagonists of this post-apocalyptic series. And we say that it is the one that touches us more closely because the series starts from a future without electricity, as a result of a great worldwide blackout that occurred 15 years before the point at which the plot begins.
All electrical devices are useless, society plunges into chaos, governments fall and military militias sow fear among citizens. In the middle of this dark panorama, the protagonists have the key to reverse the effects of the blackout, but the bad guys won't make it easy for them.
This series envisions a world without electricity overnight, a rather unlikely "prediction" but one that helps us realize just how dependent we are on electricity today. Running out of electricity suddenly is practically impossible, but running out of non-renewable energy sources (or without clean air, or without stations...) is something that, although many do not want to see, is just around the corner. It is up to us to stay and "see them coming" or start the solar revolution.
Mad Max
The Mad Max saga recently recovered on the big screen, presents us with another post-apocalyptic future much harsher than the previous one. And all because precisely crude oil (allow me the pun) and therefore gasoline, are scarce and more sought after than Beluga caviar.
If we add to this that another asset more precious than fuel, water, is even more scarce, chaos is assured. In the world of Mad Max, the law of the strongest prevails and it is common for road gangs to rob and kill the good guys for a bit of gasoline. Not to mention that the very bad guys who have frightened the population control and ration the water to keep the staff subdued.
In this case, and even if it is taken to the extreme, the scarcity of energy resources and of a basic good for life such as the water does not seem so far away... so the sooner we take action in this regard, the further away we will be from the hell that humans live. protagonists of these movies, don't you think?
Matrix
Our third prediction of the future of energy is a bit out of line with the other two… well, it is completely off and it is more than unlikely but… we must be prepared for everything, right?
The Matrix describes a world in which reality is a simulation controlled by machines and artificial intelligence that have risen up against humans and enslaved them. They keep humans connected to the simulation and in the meantime harness its energy to generate the electricity they need.
That is, in this case, the energy sources would be ourselves, only we would not benefit at all (quite the opposite). Indeed, it is the most improbable of all that we have explained so far, but just in case and to prevent our machines from trying to enslave us in exchange for energy... it wouldn't be a bad thing to look at the energy label on household appliances and keep the most efficient one, would it be? TRUE?
