Jim Carrey's next book, Memoirs and Misinformation, is about to debut in stores and now, while giving a preview of what to expect from it, The Truman Show performer has revealed what he thinks Tom's first reaction will be.
The novel, co-written with Dana Vachon, is semi-autobiographical, turning Carrey's personal experiences in the industry into a work of fiction. In an interview with the magazine, the actor confessed that readers "will not know what is true and what is not."
As part of these anecdotes will be Cruise, whose name could not be used due to rights issues. Given this, the authors chose to give him the name Laser Jack Lightning. Carrey – with his characteristic acid sense of humor – believes that his colleague will initially disagree with the portrayal of his person, but will like the story later.
“We make fun of the complexity of Hollywood. I know Tom Cruise, he'll probably beat me up, but I'd take the beating in the name of a piece of art. I think he will love it."
As the comedian highlighted, the objective of the writing is to approach from a satirical angle his experiences in what he describes as "a world of excesses and gluttony and self-absorption and vanity." From the work, we can expect endless laughter, but we can also find dark and profound moments.
Another of the celebrities that appear in the plot is Nicolas Cage, who will be Carrey's best friend in the story. It is important to mention that both he and the protagonist will keep their real names within the story. On Cage's reaction to his inclusion in the events of the novel, the author commented:
“I hadn't told him anything about the book, but then one day I snapped it at him and he just said, 'Jim, I'm honored, mate. You have no idea,' and I told him, 'I gave you the best lines,' [to which he replied] 'It's never happened to me!' He's very excited.”
