Sofia Loren opened up about her romance with Cary Grant, her co-star in "The Pride and the Passion."
London. The Italian actress Sofía Loren has buried one of the great myths of cinema by clarifying that Cary Grant, her co-star in "The Pride and the Passion" (1957), never proposed to her during the recording of that tape.
In an interview with the magazine, which was reported by local media today, the 86-year-old veteran interpreter cleared up one of the rumors that had been circulating in Hollywood for decades.
For Loren, that film, in which Frank Sinatra also participated, was her first foray into an American film, and during the recording of it, she had a torrid affair with Grant, of which she had previously given details.
"Cary Grant was a very handsome man and a wonderful actor, but he did not propose to me," the Italian legend clarified in the aforementioned interview, who during her romance with the actor was barely 23 years old, 30 years younger than him.
As she explained, she was too young then to have clear ideas about love and relationships.
Already in her memoir, published in 2014, the actress, who was about to marry film producer Carlo Ponti, explains how Grant, married to his third wife, did not stop pursuing her until he became her lover.
Sofía Loren would choose Ponti -22 years older than her-, and that would be a decision that would define, according to her, her life and her career, although she continued to maintain a friendly relationship with Grant, in which they continued to chat on the phone and write letters.
In the aforementioned interview, Loren takes stock of her personal achievements and confesses her regrets.
“It is very difficult to be able to say that you do not have any regrets. In life, you always go through many experiences, but I have always tried to live without regrets, ”she indicates.
“I have managed to achieve a quiet life. I have everything I've ever wanted: a wonderful family, wonderful children, and, grandchildren, and my only slight regret is that I never married in white. That was the dream of my life, and I still carry it inside of me, ”she admits.
