When singer Billie Eilish won Album of the Year at the 2020 Grammy Awards in January, instead of taking the stage and launching into her speech, she immediately said that Ariana Grande should have won. Eilish, who won for When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? She accepted the award, saying, "I think Ariana deserves it.
Thanks, U, Next you helped me have a good time, and I think she deserves it more than anything in the world." Grande blew Eilish kisses from her seat in the audience and seemed happy to see Eilish accept the award.
Eilish has been a fan of Grande for years, as it turns out. This fact appeared during a May 9, 2020 episode of the Beats 1 radio show that Eilish hosted with her father, Patrick O'Connell. While listening to Grande's music and discussing the pop singer, Eilish said, "I'm an Arianator! This is what pop should be. This is classic, like what I like about pop. She also said that Grande is "the best, most talented slut there is."
Eilish's father chimed in to reminisce about the days before Eilish was a superstar and how he used to imitate Grande's singing style in her childhood bedroom. Probably the same room that was covered in Justin Bieber posters, but we digress.
Ariana Grande called Billie Eilish 'my sweet baby'
Billie Eilish, discovered on SoundCloud in 2015 before releasing her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, is beloved by fellow Grammy Award winner Ariana Grande. When she was asked in November 2019 who she would switch her voices with if she could, Eilish offered Grande's name in response. "Someone with a really good voice, Ariana Grande's voice is insane can you imagine opening your mouth and that coming out holy?" he reportedly told Billboard. Talk about a big compliment!
Grande shared the interview clip on Twitter along with a response to Eilish, writing "my sweet baby," which made fans of both singers nervous to support their friendship. And while these two hugely popular singers haven't collaborated yet, fans are hoping something is coming soon. Her song styles can be a bit different from each other — Eilish's tends to skew a bit more than Grande's — but her powerful vocals could easily come together on a song in the future. Grande has just come off a huge collaboration with Lady Gaga, so why enter into a partnership with Eilish?
