Paul Newman is the best actor in history, 4 movies to prove it

It was the second time that Paul Newman shared the limelight with his inseparable BFF Robert Redford. The film tells the story of two scoundrels with plenty of charisma.

Paul Newman is the best actor in history, 4 movies to prove it

Henry Gondorff (Paul Newman) and Johnny Hooker (Robert Redford), are dedicated to defrauding the gang in illegal timbers. Then many more things happen, but our job is to recommend it and not explain it completely. It was nominated for 10 Oscars. It won seven, including Best Picture. From Scott Joplin's piano came one of the definitive soundtracks of the seventh art.

Two Men and a Destination (1969)

George Roy Hill was the brilliant mind and filmmaker who first met Newman with Redford. Since then, nothing has been the same in the world of cinema. The star tandem gave life to Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, two of the most iconic (real) figures in the criminal history of the Far West, on their escape to Bolivia. Another must-see film, another sublime soundtrack, in this case, signed by the master of the perfect plus Quan melodies Burt Bacharach.

The Cat on the zinc roof (1958)

Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor, directed by Richard Brooks, star in this magnificent adaptation of Tennessee Williams' play of the same name. At a time when it was still shot in black and white, it is said that this film was shot in color to highlight the mesmerizing blue of the eyes of its leading couple. Newman was little more than a debutante in the world of cinema, but his performance earned him his first Oscar nomination.

The Judge of the Gallows (1972)

The Paul Newman cycle closes with another western directed by none other than John Houston (bow down, please). The Hanging Judge is a mixture of black comedy and romance: Newman gives life to a man who is about to be hanged (on a gallows, of course) and saves his neck at the last moment (as you would expect in a movie). It may not be Newman's best-known film, but it is a cult reference with a cast that, in addition to Newman, includes stars of the caliber of Ava Gardner, Anthony Perkins, and Jacqueline Bisset.
