Angelina Jolie, at the age of 40, faced a challenging task as she not only directed but also acted in her new film "By The Sea," alongside her husband, Brad Pitt, who is 51. The movie depicts a couple struggling in their marriage, requiring them to shoot intense love scenes together.
According to Angelina Jolie Pitt, filming scenes with her husband for "By The Sea" was "the strangest thing in the world," but as the film's writer and director, she had no one else to blame for the situation.
"Love scenes are strange anyway, but when you're doing a love scene with a person that you really have s-x with? The only way to get through it was for us to all talk about the absurdity of it and make sure no one was feeling awkward," she revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
She described the unusual situation of lying n@k-d in a bathtub, using an iPad to see the shot outside, while directing her husband to come in and perform a love scene, all while being surrounded by a camera crew.
While Jolie has experienced numerous love scenes in her previous films, she acknowledged that this one was "obviously different" and hoped that "every woman could have this experience."
Brad Pitt was equally protective of his wife during the filming, making sure no one saw her walking around without clothes on. He even held a towel over her to maintain her comfort and privacy.
Jolie also spoke candidly about her insecurity over her body after undergoing a double mastectomy. However, she expressed that the surgeries still allow her to feel like a woman, and she chose to show these scenes to help others with body concerns connect with her experience.
The movie "By The Sea" reflects on the theme of mourning, partly inspired by Jolie's personal experience with her mother's death in 2007.
Despite speculations about their relationship, Jolie clarified that their bond is very stable, and their fight sequences in the film do not mirror their real-life situation.
