Consecrated in the action genre, Keanu Reeves opened up about the character that cost him the most to prepare for the big screen
Keanu Reeves never ceases to amaze. The Canadian actor, consecrated throughout his career as an action hero with his imprint, not only prepares his roles from the acting side: to take charge of each of his new challenges, he takes the training of his body to a maximum level.
Thus, the interpreter achieved that between his figure in The Matrix (1999) and his body in John Wick: Another Day to Kill (2014) there is practically no difference, despite the 15-year distance between one success and the other. Facing the premiere of the fourth installment of the action and suspense franchise in which he puts himself in the shoes of a murderer, Reeves opened up and revealed which of all his characters cost him the most to interpret.
The actor now explained that filming the fourth installment of the John Wick saga pushed him to demand more physical than all previous roles. “It was the most physical and difficult role I've had in my career so far,” Reeves explained to Total Film. "They really trained me to be able to have what we call the toolbox," the Hollywood heartthrob opened up. What does the actor mean by this definition? To the ability to adapt to different situations, which can range from fighting with martial arts techniques to carrying out extreme scenes on board a car.
After revealing that he also honed his driving skills to pull off certain stunts required for action scenes set in the streets of Paris, the Matrix star explained, “We take a car driving to the next level, which really I enjoy. There are 180-degree turns, 180-degree reverses, 270-degree forward reverses, drifts… It's been really fun to be able to learn those skills and put them into practice," he added, referring to one of the scenes filmed around the Triumphal arch.
Trained and Generous
After wrapping up filming on the fourth John Wick movie, Reeves surprised his stunt team, who helped him get back into shape, with some pretty generous gifts. The actor gifted each of his four trainers - Bruce Concepcion, Jeremy Marinas, Dave Camarillo, and Li Qiang - a custom Rolex Submariner watch. The delivery was made as part of a dinner in Paris that took place in October 2021. Inside each watch, Reeves had a personal message recorded for each one.
"The best gift in the world," Marinas enthusiastically shared on his Instagram account along with the image of his watch. In the post, the fitness trainer revealed that his watch read “The John Wick Five” along with the message “Jeremy thank you Keanu JW4 2021″. For her part, Concepción also shared a photo of her Rolex. "Thank you, brother KR," he expressed.
A long-awaited delivery
The film, directed by Chad Stahelski, was originally scheduled to debut in theaters on May 22, 2022, but the release was pushed back a year. And while Lionsgate released the official trailer for John Wick: Chapter 4 back in November of last year, the movie will hit theaters in March. In the trailer, you can see the iconic and skilled hitman out for revenge.
About a possible fifth installment, Reeves himself revealed what depends on whether the story of his character continues. “The only reason we get a chance to make these movies is because people like what we do, so I think we'll just have to wait and see the response from the public. I hope you like it! ”, He was excited. For his part, Stahelski agreed with the actor's vision when he was asked about the possibility of adding more chapters to the saga. "Ask me in a couple of months," said the director, with a humorous tone.
