At the beginning of her professional career, the actress experienced an instant that will remain in her memory.
The popular British program The Graham Norton Show stands out for being a space where Hollywood stars share the craziest and most unknown anecdotes. Recently, Kate Winslet was the main guest and made a confession: she revealed one of the most embarrassing moments of her career.
Before rising to fame with her iconic role in Titanic, Winslet had already dabbled in film with films like Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet and the acclaimed Sense and Sensibility. However, her beginnings were in the theater, where she had her first N- experiences in front of the public, and one of them became an unforgettable moment.
During the interview, the host asks Winslet about an embarrassing episode, to which she responds with a line that elicits instant laughs from the audience: "Well, there was one time I almost shit myself."
This memorable moment occurred when Kate Winslet was 18 years old and was performing What the Butler Saw, written by Joe Orton, at the Royal Exchange Theater in Manchester. In the play, the actress played Geraldine, who applies for a job as a doctor's secretary and is asked to undress for an exam. It is at this point that things get complicated.
When Winslet strips behind a circular curtain and climbs onto the gurney N-, she feels like she's about to have an accident: "Oh my god, I'm going to shit myself. I'm lying on a white bed in the bathroom!" stage! And I'm sure I've shit myself!"
The situation is further complicated by the peculiarity of the stage in the theater, which is round, meaning that Winslet was visible from all angles. However, she had to get out of that situation before becoming the center of ridicule, according to the actress.
"So I tried to grab the sheet as best I could. I wrapped myself up like a ninja and covered myself with the sheet wrapped around me. All this in front of an audience that could see me from every angle, and I was sure that if I moved, it would fill the whole floor with poop," says the actress between laughs and tears.
Fortunately, it all came down to a fun anecdote to tell later, and Winslet didn't have a mishap in front of thousands of people on stage. However, the scare was shocking enough not to be easily forgotten.
