The 'bromance' of Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio is the best of the awards season

The 'bromance' of Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio is the best of the awards season

When Brad Pitt went up to collect the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, he emotionally thanked a lot of people for the award: director Quentin Tarantino, his family, and everyone who gave him a first chance in Hollywood... But there was one person to which, in addition to thanking him, he dedicated an affectionate joke: to his co-star Leonardo DiCaprio.

Since (we all agree) this awards season has been so boring, following the friendship between Pitt and DiCaprio has probably been the most entertaining. Sure, we already appreciated his camaraderie on the Cannes interview circuit around Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood, but the respect and praise they paid each other didn't go beyond typical castmate behavior.

We later found out that Pitt and DiCaprio were real friends. Friends of those who make pottery together while sharing sandwiches. “Brad has a sculpture workshop in his house and Leo loves to stop by and work for a while,” reported the British tabloid The Sun. "Leo brings sandwiches from his favorite place, Fat Sal's, and they have guys' nights crafting until the small hours."

Already at the Golden Globes, things heated up a bit: "I also have to thank my accomplice, LDC," Pitt said in his acceptance speech. “Before The Revenant, I used to watch year after year as his co-stars would get up to collect awards and thank him profusely, and now I know why. He is quite a star, he is a gentleman”. And he signed with a great joke: "I would have shared the table with you", a nod to that internet theory according to which Jack and Rose from Titanic would have both fit perfectly in the door they shared at sea.

The affectionate nickname, it seems, is nothing to write home about compared to what DiCaprio calls him. A few weeks later, at the SAG Awards, Pitt revealed that Dicaprio's nickname for him is (roll…) “Lover”, that is, something like “hunk”. “It throws me off a bit, but I just go along with it,” Pitt concluded in Entertainment Weekly.
