The Oscar-winning actor agreed with his colleague and explained why the romantic scenes were uncomfortable for both of them.
Kate Hudson stated in a recent interview that kissing Matthew McConaughey on different occasions was anything but romantic, now the Oscar-winning actor has come out to respond to those statements.
The actors starred in “How to Lose a Man in 10 Days” and “Love and Treasure” and have had several kissing and romance scenes. But Hudson recently said explicitly that kissing McConaughey wasn't the most rewarding part of her career. “Honestly, I feel like I haven't had the best kissers. “I feel like I should have had better ones,” said the Hollywood star.
In October, Hudson told fellow actress Gwyneth Paltrow on the “Goop” podcast that her kissing scenes with McConaughey were never good to film because they often involved “snot or wind.”
"The thing is, every time I've kissed McConaughey, it was like something awkward was happening....like when we were kissing at the end of 'Fool's Gold...he had snot all over his face,'" the actress explained to her colleague.
However, Hudson does have fond memories of a teammate. “You know who was a good kisser, but you didn't see him because they cut him, it was Billy,” Hudson said, referring to Billy Crudup from the 2000 film “Almost Famous.” “Billy was Well. That was good.”
After the 41-year-old actress opened up about her best and worst on-screen kisses on Paltrow's podcast last month, McConaughey blamed the hectic circumstances surrounding her disastrous kiss.
McConaughey, 51, explained that it was difficult trying to kiss her partner in the salt water and other difficult conditions. In an interview with Yahoo!, the actor agreed with Hudson and said he was right when he remembered the “snot” that dripped from her nose during a scene in the 2008 romantic comedy “Fools Gold.”
And then he explained why they didn't have a nice kiss in front of the cameras. “Well, this was the scene: You just jumped out of the helicopter. You are in the middle of the ocean. You go under the water and then you come up gasping for air,” McConaughey said. “You're glad to be alive! Then they look at each other and swim towards each other and hug and kiss,” he explained about how that scene was filmed.
So McConaughey said yes, there was “a lot of salt water and snot.” And he acknowledged that with Hudson “We never got to have our nice romantic kiss.” The actor recalled thinking after the scene, “Okay, I think it worked, but will it look good?”
The two actors also do not have good memories of their romantic scenes in “How to Lose a Man in 10 Days.”
McConaughey, who is promoting his memoir “Greenlights,” also starred alongside Hudson in the 2003 romantic comedy. “A lot of our kisses have been awkward,” the actor said. “We still wonder, can we ever have a kiss where the temperature is right? Isn't the ocean destroying us? Isn't anyone throwing things at us, over our heads?”
The actor also said he could return to star in his memorable role in the famous comedy and confessed that the idea of a sequel did not seem completely crazy to him. “It could be a sequel and it would be a very good one! “As far as romantic comedies go, this was a really good one,” McConaughey revealed.
