A Journey of Resilience, The Life and Times of Bijou Phillips

Bijou Phillips, the wife of former "That '70s Show" actor Danny Masterson, was seen in tears during his sentencing to 30 years in prison for the r-pe of two women between 2001 and 2003.

Phillips, a 43-year-old model and actress, has stood by her husband of 12 years throughout the trial and was present when the victims delivered their harrowing statements.

One of the victims, whom Masterson, 47, was convicted of r-pe in 2003, expressed, “When you r-ped me, you stole from me. R-pe is just that, a theft of the spirit.” She continued, “You are disturbed and pathetic and completely violent. The world is better off with you in jail.”

The second victim told Judge Charlaine Olmedo of the Los Angeles Superior Court that Masterson “has not shown one iota of remorse for the pain he caused.” She added, “I knew he should be behind bars for the safety of all the women he came in contact with. I am very sorry and very upset. I wish I had reported it to the police sooner.”

Following the sentencing, which means Masterson won't be eligible for parole until he turns 77, he received a blown kiss from Bijou Phillips, who was wearing dark glasses.

Bijou Phillips, born on April 1, 1980, in Greenwich, Connecticut, is the daughter of The Mamas & The Papas frontman John Phillips and his third wife Geneviève Waite. Her early life was marked by challenges as she entered foster care at a young age, with neither of her biological parents able to care for her. She became emancipated at 17, having officially dropped out of school at 14. Her journey included rehab at age 17.

In a 2018 Instagram post, Phillips revealed the ongoing custody battles between her parents while she lived with foster families. She described the pain of separation from her mother and her deep connection with her host family.

After gaining her independence, Phillips moved to Manhattan near Fifth Avenue and entered a "party girl" phase, struggling with addiction to heroin, cocaine, and ecstasy. She began her modeling career at 13 with a Calvin Klein underwear advertisement. The absence of parental guidance and the allure of New York's nightlife contributed to her substance use.

However, a friend's overdose prompted her father to encourage her to seek rehab. Bijou Phillips has two half-sisters, Mackenzie and Chynna, both of whom have also faced their own struggles and sought treatment at rehab centers over the years.

In a disturbing revelation, Mackenzie Phillips claimed in 2009 that she had been the victim of an incestuous relationship with her father, John Phillips, starting when she was 19. This included an alleged r-pe the night before her wedding, leading to a forced abortion due to uncertainty about the baby's paternity.

In 2004, Bijou Phillips met Danny Masterson at a poker tournament in Las Vegas. Five years later, they became engaged and ultimately married in 2011. Their daughter Fianna was born on Valentine's Day in 2014.
