Kate Winslet opens up and talks about what she experienced after Titanic

Kate Winslet recently shared her post-'Titanic' experience on Marc Maron's podcast, giving us a glimpse into the rollercoaster ride her life became after the film's monumental success. For Winslet, who had catapulted to global fame practically overnight, it wasn't all smooth sailing.

"After the success, I went into self-protection mode. It was like day and night, from one day to the next. I was subject to a lot of personal physical scrutiny, I was criticized a lot, and the British press was quite cruel to me. I felt intimidated, if I'm honest with what happened to me. I remember thinking, 'This is horrible, and I hope it passes.' It definitely happened, but it made me realize that if that was what being famous was, I wasn't ready to be famous. Definitely not."

This brutal onslaught from the media and the overwhelming attention took a toll on Winslet, to the point where she contemplated leaving her acting career. While she didn't step away from the industry entirely, she did make a conscious choice to shift towards smaller productions, choosing roles that would allow her more personal space and privacy.

"Everything happened to me very quickly when I was still learning to act. I felt that I was not prepared to take on many of the significant roles in Hollywood. So, I strategically tried to find smaller roles, which allowed me to understand the craft better and maintain a certain degree of privacy and dignity."

Today, Kate Winslet continues to be a celebrated actress, but she has deliberately steered her career towards projects that prioritize her well-being and personal growth over mega-blockbusters. While 'Titanic' was undoubtedly a turning point in her life, the experience taught her that fame comes at a price, and sometimes, it's wiser to choose the path less traveled, where one can truly flourish as an artist and a person.
