Kim Kardashian addressed her ex-husband Kanye West's recent anti-Semitic speech, which has led to his significant financial losses, in an Instagram post.
The celebrity businesswoman had remained silent on the controversy surrounding her children's father until she chose to express her thoughts in a message posted on her Instagram account. Kanye West, who now goes by the name Ye, faced backlash after a series of anti-Semitic and racist statements on Twitter, which led to his suspension from social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram due to policy violations. In response, he has expressed interest in purchasing the ultra-conservative app Parler.
Following the global repudiation and the termination of her husband's million-dollar contracts, Kim Kardashian finally broke her silence on the matter. She stated, "Hate speech is never okay or excusable," and declared her support for the Jewish community while calling for an end to the violence and hateful rhetoric. She refrained from mentioning her ex-husband's name.
Before Kim Kardashian's statement, the Kardashian-Jenner family had not publicly commented on Kanye West's statements. However, Khloé Kardashian also tweeted her support for her friends and the Jewish community. Subsequently, Kim's sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner, along with their mother Kris Jenner, shared the same message on their Instagram stories.
Adidas was one of the companies that terminated its contract with Kanye West due to his recent anti-Semitic and racist statements, describing them as "unacceptable." In a statement, the company emphasized its intolerance for hate speech, anti-Semitism, and other forms of discrimination. Adidas asserted that Kanye's remarks contradicted their values, such as diversity, inclusion, mutual respect, and equity. They announced the immediate termination of their partnership with the rapper.
Furthermore, the Creative Artists Agency (CAA), a major entertainment industry representation agency, also cut ties with Kanye West after his controversial comments. CAA terminated its contract with the rapper, following the lead of brands like Balenciaga and The Gap, which had previously severed their collaborations with him.
Despite facing backlash and losing contracts, Kanye West has maintained that he will not be silenced or canceled. He expressed his determination not to lose money and considered his separation from Balenciaga as a liberating moment.
Notably, the family of George Floyd, an African-American man who was murdered by a police officer in 2020, filed a defamation lawsuit against Kanye West days earlier. They demanded $250 million in compensation for his statements, as he suggested that Floyd's death was due to drug consumption rather than police violence, contrary to autopsy findings and court rulings.
Kanye West has made controversial statements, including wearing a "White Lives Matter" T-shirt during a fashion show in Paris, a slogan associated with white supremacists in response to the Black Lives Matter movement. He also made comments about Jared Kushner, implying that he was motivated by financial interests in the Middle East peace treaties.
