Angelina Jolie has shared the reasons behind her hiatus from making movies, despite her recent appearance in a Marvel film and upcoming projects.
Once a highly sought-after actress in Hollywood, Angelina Jolie's career soared with memorable roles in movies like "60 Seconds," "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," and Clint Eastwood's "The Exchange," a film deserving of more recognition.
However, over time, Jolie's presence on the big screen waned, while her personal life remained in the spotlight due to her high-profile relationship with Brad Pitt, which ultimately ended in divorce in 2019. Jolie now reveals that her absence from major films was not a coincidence, as it was influenced by a challenging period in her life.
While introducing her new fashion brand, Atelier Jolie, the actress openly discussed the difficult times she went through, confessing that she had been feeling somewhat down. She also disclosed the reasons behind her extended absence from significant movie projects, stating, "I haven't felt like myself in the last decade in a certain sense, and I don't want to get into it anymore," as she portrayed the character of Maleficent. This is not the first time Jolie has touched upon this topic; she had previously made similar statements in 2017, explaining that she refrained from committing to extensive film projects because she needed time to heal.
In recent years, Angelina Jolie has been less visible in major film roles. However, she continued to explore her talents by delving into directing with her fifth film, "Taken Away: Memories of a Cambodian Girl." As an actress, she appeared in movies like the "Maleficent" sequel, "Those Who Wish Me Dead," and notably in "Eternals," a Marvel film directed by Chloé Zhao, where she portrayed the superheroine Thena.
Despite her reduced focus on cinema, Jolie has invested her time in various other pursuits, such as her ongoing humanitarian work with the UNHCR and her foray into the world of fashion as a designer.
