Bryce Dallas Howard, the American actress known for her role in the "Jurassic World" franchise, recently shed light on the significant wage disparity she experienced in comparison to her co-star, Chris Pratt.
The revelation comes as she challenges previously reported salary figures from 2018 and underscores the need for pay equity in the entertainment industry.
The award-winning actress, who has earned accolades like the Screen Actors Guild Awards, disclosed that her compensation for her role in the second installment of the trilogy, "Fallen Kingdom," was notably lower than that of her co-star. She expressed her frustration with the reported figures, stating, "The reports were very interesting because they paid me much less than what they said, much less," in an interview with Insider.
During the period in question, it was widely publicized that Chris Pratt had secured a $10 million deal, while Bryce had supposedly agreed to an $8 million payment for their roles. Bryce, in response to these figures, noted that negotiations began in 2014, a time when the landscape of wage equity was vastly different. She emphasized that this placed her at a considerable disadvantage during the negotiations.
While she didn't specify her exact earnings, Howard commended Pratt for actively working to address and rectify the pay gap in subsequent franchise-related ventures, including video games, theme parks, and collectible merchandise. She revealed that Pratt had consistently assured her that he would lead the negotiations to ensure equal compensation.
In her own words, Bryce shared, "What I will say is that Chris and I have discussed it, and every time there was an opportunity to move the needle on issues that had not yet been negotiated, he literally told me: 'Don't worry, I'll do all the negotiating. We'll get paid the same thing, and you don't have to think about this.'"
As Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt bid farewell to the "Jurassic World" universe in "Jurassic World: Dominion," the concluding chapter of the trilogy, they leave behind a legacy in the renowned franchise that has spanned over three decades. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, the film serves as a fitting farewell for the beloved dinosaurs and the characters that have thrilled audiences since the original "Jurassic Park."
Reflecting on their time working together, Bryce expressed her fondness for Pratt, highlighting their strong working relationship. She remarked, "I'm actually going to miss working with Chris. We had a lot of fun. I don't think we've had a day that wasn't amazing working together. I feel very lucky to have worked with Chris on these movies. I'm going to miss a lot. I miss that," during an interview with the Cultura Ocio portal.
