Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, marital betrayal on stage

From being the most famous secret agent in the world to a cheated on husband: the current 'James Bond', Daniel Craig, took to the Broadway stage on Tuesday night.

Next to him were not the 'Bond girls', but his real-life wife, Rachel Weisz. Together they starred in 'Betrayal', the work of the late Nobel Prize in Literature Harold Pinter that they will perform until January.

Few Broadway productions have aroused such expectation. The audience packed into the Barrymore Theater in New York celebrated the premiere on Tuesday night with a standing ovation.

Craig, 45, and Weisz, 43, play an unhappy marriage on stage. The couple just shook hands and smiled once the curtain fell. During the hour and a half of the play there were fights, dramas and a single kiss. Emma (Weisz) has cheated on Robert (Craig) with her best friend for years. The play begins at a time when both the marriage and the affair have ended. From there, he tells the story backwards in nine scenes.

"I thought it was excellent," said a viewer after the premiere. "There were many planes, a lot of depth." Weisz, for whom it was her Broadway debut, and Craig were "great," says her friend from the seat next to her. "It's been fun watching them. There's a spark between them."

Craig and his wife had been wanting to go on stage together for some time, the actor, who last performed on Broadway in 2009, in 'A Steady Rain' alongside Hugh Jackman, told 'The New York Times'. "It seemed logical to both of us," he added. Craig and Weisz met at the theater 20 years ago, in London. Several couples later, each with a child from previous relationships, married in 2011.

Unlike other Hollywood couples, the current 'James Bond' and the Oscar-winning actress avoid the red carpet and the paparazzi as much as they can. "Someone recently called us a 'power couple,'" Craig said. "What is that supposed to mean? We just want to keep our private lives to ourselves."

Although that doesn't mean they can't act together on Broadway. "Perhaps it seems like a contradiction. One always exposes oneself on stage. Although we do not expose our marriage there."

The gossip press considers that Craig and Weisz are the "most beautiful couple in the world." "But there are a lot of couples prettier than Rachel and me," Craig protests. "Although in no way do I want to devalue Rachel," he clarifies.

The truth is that after the premiere of 'Betrayal', dozens of fans, especially women, were waiting with their cameras at the exit of the stage. But after signing a couple of autographs, 'James Bond' walked away from them with his wife.
