Noah's Diary is a textbook romantic movie. Its protagonists, played by Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, star in a love story, where there is no shortage of drama typical of any intense relationship.
On screen, the connection between the couple is spectacular, which seems to be understood perfectly, but the truth is that, back in 2004, when the film was filmed, the relationship between Rachel and Ryan was not, let's say, very good. . And much less to star in a love movie. The reality was that they couldn't stand each other, neither liked the other's attitude and when the cameras went off they went their separate ways; Not a look, not a smile... nothing at all. Of course, they played their role so well that no viewer noticed the bad vibes that existed between them.
As time went by, and when they met again, it seems that Rachel and Ryan began to understand each other better. To such an extent that the two actors began a relationship that lasted three years and ended amicably. So much so that Ryan, in any interview he is asked, always talks about how much his courtship with his co-star influenced him. The same thing happens with Rachel, who also praises the Canadian. Now, each one has rebuilt their lives separately and they have formed beautiful families that they do not hesitate to reunite when they have the opportunity. In Divinity, we tell you how Ryan and Rachel fell in love and how they were able to go from hate to love.
The arguments between Ryan and Rachel on the filming set
Ryan Gosling started acting when he was very little and, along with his sister Mandi, they sang at some weddings paying tributes to Elvis Presley. It was in 1993 when he starred in a Disney Channel show and coincided with other superstars of the time, such as Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. It was from the age of 19 when he decided to take his acting career seriously and looked for roles in different Hollywood feature films. It wasn't easy, but by 2001, he had already appeared in more than one film and his face was becoming more and more known to the producers. In 2004 he was cast to star in Noah's Diary, alongside Rachel McAdams. The young woman, Canadian like the actor, had also started acting when she was very little and she had started on the big screen three years before.
The Notebook - its name in English - was a real success and gave its two protagonists great fame. Additionally, the chemistry between Rachel and Ryan was what caught the most attention from critics. “Their performances are so spontaneous and fueled that you quickly identify with the reckless boyfriends, who embody an innocence that has everything but missing from the lives of young Americans. And against your own judgment, you root for the couple to overcome the odds against them,” they published in the New York Times. But the truth is that reality was far from this idyllic relationship; Rachel and Ryan couldn't stand each other. This was confirmed by its director, Nick Cassavetes, a couple of years ago: “Maybe I shouldn't tell this, but they didn't get along during filming. Not really. And Ryan came to me and said, 'Nick come here.' He was doing a scene with Rachel and said, 'Would you throw her out and get another actress to shoot with me? I said, 'How?' He said, 'I can't. “I can’t do that with her.”
Everyone expected that, as time went by on the set, the two would begin to get along well. “We entered a room with one of the producers and they started yelling at each other non-stop. I gave up. At that point, I was smoking a cigarette and everyone was like 'everything's fine, let's do it'. And after that everything got better. They did it, the rest of the filming went smoothly and everything was calmer,” Cassavetes commented when asked. An extreme that was confirmed by Gosling: “We were inspired by the worst in each other, it was a strange experience to star in a love story without getting along with your partner. Two years later I saw her in New York and we started to think that maybe we were wrong about each other." It was in that reunion when true love arose, far removed from the cliché of the film in which they had starred. They were doing so well that they even decided to recreate their legendary kiss in the rain at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards. Their relationship ended in 2008, although it is true that shortly afterwards there was a reconciliation, which did not go any further.
Three years later, Ryan began a relationship with actress and model Eva Mendes. With her, he has had two daughters, Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee. For her part, Rachel has been dating writer Jamie Linden since 2016 and has a son with him. Furthermore, in August of this same year the couple confirmed that they are expecting their second child. Now, the respect and admiration between Rachel and Ryan is mutual. But yes, he has been the actor who has most declared his love for Rachel before the media. He said about her, after they broke up, that she had been the woman of his life, like Sandra Bullock, with whom he also dated for a few years. “When both people are in show business, it's too much showbusiness. It takes all the light, so that nothing else can grow,” he confessed.
