Sarah Ferguson Reflects on Bonds with Princess Diana Amid Media Scrutiny

During their youth, Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson enjoyed a close and beautiful friendship, but media comparisons strained their bond. In a recent interview with 'People,' Sarah Ferguson revealed significant aspects of their relationship, including a longstanding promise and their approach to navigating the persistent public comparisons.

Recalling their deep connection, the Duchess of York emphasized, "We were best friends since she was 14 and I was 15." She reminisced about the moment Diana introduced her to Prince Andrew, Andrew being the younger brother of Prince Charles. The two eventually married in 1986 and later divorced, remaining connected through their two daughters, Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.

Despite the media's penchant for contrasting them, Sarah Ferguson emphasized that she and Diana managed the situation adeptly. The Duchess acknowledged the challenging times, especially during the '80s when media portrayal labeled her as "the pig duchess." Reflecting on that era, she remarked, "We were just there for people to make a lot of money. At the time, neither of us realized it."

Addressing the challenges they faced, Sarah Ferguson revealed, "Diana and I had our own mental health issues, and she and I used to talk." Diana imparted valuable advice, saying, "When you're at the top of the pedestal, it's very easy to fall. And when you're down, just go up." The Duchess stressed the importance of sticking together, stating, "We were positioned as saints and sinners, and the most important thing was to stick together, and we did, no matter what anyone else wrote."

In the interview, Sarah Ferguson fondly remembered Princess Diana's infectious laugh and great sense of humor, emphasizing the joy Diana brought into her life. Dismissing past rumors of a falling-out in 1997, the Duchess clarified that they had made a solemn pact to always support each other, countering any claims of discord. She expressed their unbreakable bond, stating, "We promised each other that we would always be together. There were never disagreements between us."

In a poignant reflection, Sarah Ferguson highlighted Diana's bravery and resilience in the face of adversity. The Duchess emphasized that the comparisons drawn between them were unfounded, mirroring sentiments she previously shared in 2019 about the persistent attempts to depict them as rivals in the media.
