The American writer and director Woody Allen called certain Hollywood actors “selfish” when accusing him of committing abuse, and also said that making complaints about him became a fashion among the artistic union.
The 84-year-old director shared with The Guardian newspaper his position on the accusations of child abuse that have been made against him for 30 years, “The actors have no idea of the facts and cling to a safe, public and selfish position and He questioned, "Who in the world is not against child abuse?"
Allen also pointed out that making complaints about him has become a fashionable practice and emphasized that this fact is as if everyone suddenly ate kale, and added that no one would give importance to the issue.
“I thought people would see it as ridiculous rubbish straight away and from day one I never took it seriously. I mean, it's like being confronted with a story that I murdered six people with a machine gun," explained the director of films like Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
He described these actors as opportunists and explained that even if he explains the facts over and over again, this will not matter, “For some reason, emotionally, it is important that they buy the story.”
The accusations against the film director were made after the accusation made by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow, who said that at the age of seven Allen had abused her; however, the filmmaker denied the events that apparently happened in 1992.
When the news broke, some Hollywood actors showed their support for Dylan Farrow, including Natalie Portman, Greta Gerwig, Ellen Page, Timothée Chalamet, Mira Sorvino and Evan Rachel Wood.
