Kate Middleton's surprise performance on the UK's most Christmas night, her talent at the piano

Kate Middleton gave a surprising 'gift' to the millions of Britons who tuned in to their televisions this December 24 night to watch the Together for Christmas concert. This is an initiative that the Duchess of Cambridge herself created together with the Royal Foundation.

The wife of Prince William left the citizens of the United Kingdom speechless who, during the performance of the singer Tom Walker, were able to see how one of her favorite royals played the melody on a piano. The song they performed was For Those Who Can't Be Here, a heartfelt song in which the Duchess seemed comfortable at the keys.

Minutes before Middleton took the stage, she was on the bench next to her husband, and there was no reason to expect that she would immediately become the protagonist of the great charity party.

Dressed in red and focused on the notes and her hands at the piano, Kate performed the moving song by candlelight at Westminster Abbey. A very special staging that was recorded in the Chapter House of the Abbey one day before the community carol service on December 8. But it was this Friday night when the British and the entire world were able to enjoy it publicly.

The idea for this surprise came when the Duchess of Cambridge saw Tom Walker perform at a charity performance in October. She met him after the concert and they talked about doing something together for Christmas and the singer happily accepted.

All of this happened at The Forward Trust event, a London-based charity that helps people with drug and alcohol dependency. After Walker performed Leave a Light On, a song about the struggles of those experiencing addiction, Middleton approached the artist. She then asked him to be at the carol service, and she also confessed that she would love to accompany him on the piano.

Kate joined forces with music during the home confinement due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and she returned to her talent at the piano, something that she already learned since she was little, since she practiced and went to classes on this musical instrument.

After years without facing the public to play, much less with an artist of Walker's stature and in front of a million-dollar audience, Middleton was "quite nervous," according to the Mirror Online newspaper. She assured those around her that her insecurities were due to the fact that "she had not played with another musician in a long time," as reported by the aforementioned media.

Furthermore, as MailOnline pointed out, "the whole plan was very, very secret", and sources close to the duchess assured that if they became known they could spoil the big surprise that William's wife had prepared for the world this Christmas.
