Selena Gomez, the actress and singer, has recently opened up about her past relationship with Canadian artist Justin Bieber in her biographical documentary, "My Mind & Me."
Selena Gomez revealed that the best thing that ever happened to her was ending her romantic involvement with the "Baby" singer.
The documentary offers a comprehensive retrospective look at Selena Gomez's personal and professional journey, including her challenges with physical and mental health. Amidst the ups and downs depicted in the film, there is a specific focus on Gomez's breakup with Justin Bieber, during which she shared insights into the difficulties she faced in that relationship.
Reflecting on the breakup, Gomez expressed, "I feel like I had to go through the worst possible devastation and then just forget everything in the blink of an eye; it was really confusing. But I just think that I needed it to happen, and that, at the end of the day, it was the best thing that could have happened to me." The film also explores the challenges of navigating a public relationship, making the healing process more complex.
"Everything felt so public. I felt haunted by a relationship from the past that no one wanted to let go. Then I simply left her behind, and I wasn't afraid anymore," Gomez shared in the biographical film, particularly referencing the song "Lose You to Love Me," which emerged after her final breakup with Justin.
Describing the creation of the song, Gomez revealed that it took her only 45 minutes and explained its significance: "It's about more than a lost love. It's about how I learned to choose myself, to choose life, but also hope that people find grace and peace in that, too. The song is about knowing that you lost every part of who you were, only to rediscover yourself again," she stated.
Gomez and Bieber were in the public eye due to their relationship from 2012 to early 2018, and their final separation occurred when Bieber got engaged and married to model Hailey Baldwin. While the situation initially sparked controversy among fans, recent events, such as Gomez and Hailey sharing photos together at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles last October, indicate that any misunderstandings have been resolved over the years.
