Colombian President SCRAPS Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Trip Over Excessive Luxury Demands

In yet another twist in The Saga of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, their much-anticipated trip to Colombia has reportedly been canceled.

Colombian President SCRAPS Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Trip Over Excessive Luxury Demands

The couple, known for their globe-trotting and high-profile engagements, were set to embark on a four-day tour of the South American nation. However, the trip was abruptly called off, and the reasons behind this decision are both perplexing and somewhat amusing.

Originally intended as a birthday surprise for Meghan, the trip was meant to relaunch the couple onto the global stage. Yet, reports indicate that the visit encountered numerous issues from the outset. One of the primary reasons for the cancellation appears to be the dubious authority of Colombian Vice President Francia Márquez, who either extended the invitation or accepted it on behalf of the couple. It has emerged that Márquez may not have had the requisite authority to issue such an invitation, casting a shadow over the entire affair.

Compounding the situation were the Sussexes' reportedly extravagant demands, including first-class travel and other luxury accommodations. These demands appear to have been excessive for the hosts, leading to further complications. The couple’s insistence on living like royalty while simultaneously distancing themselves from the royal family seems to have backfired yet again.

According to an article by Caroline Graham in the Daily Mail, Harry and Meghan were reportedly being used as political pawns by Colombia. The country’s left-wing government, led by President Gustavo Petro, has been mired in scandals and was seeking a distraction. What better way to shift focus than by showcasing the world’s most famous former royals? However, the plan did not unfold as smoothly as intended.

Had the trip proceeded, Harry and Meghan would have visited some of Colombia's most iconic cities, including the capital, Bogotá, the colonial city of Cartagena, and the cultural festival in Barranquilla. The trip was designed to highlight Colombia’s rich culture, and Meghan had planned to showcase her fluent Spanish. However, for many Colombians, the visit seemed more like a cynical ploy by the government to divert attention from its own issues.

Vice President Márquez, who extended the invitation, has been a controversial figure in her own right. A former maid and single mother turned activist, Márquez has faced criticism for her perceived lavish lifestyle since taking office. Accusations of using helicopters as taxis and splurging on a new home have tainted her image as a champion for the underprivileged.

Reports suggested that the Sussexes were expected to stay in a luxurious $2,500-a-night presidential suite at the SEL Legend Hotel in Cartagena. The suite, complete with a butler and a pool, would have offered stunning views of the city and the Caribbean Sea—quite a contrast to the crime-ridden areas they were scheduled to visit.
