The couple was in the country to attend a forum on empowering Afro-Colombian women in Cartagena, a diplomatic event that quickly spiraled into an awkward and tense situation. The controversy arose when Meghan allegedly got a bit too close for comfort with the husband of Colombia’s Vice President, Francia Márquez, leading to a near diplomatic incident.
The Sussexes were in Colombia for a series of events, including a traditional music festival in the vibrant city of Cartagena. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until Meghan greeted Rafael Yi, the Vice President’s husband, with a kiss on the cheek. What might have been a simple, friendly gesture turned into a source of significant tension.
