The 29-year-old joked that she gave her life away when she played the lead role in Wizards of Waverly Place when she was a child.
She is now headed back to acting – her first since the Disney show – starring in the upcoming Hulu series Only Murders in the Building.
During the Only Murders In the Building Television Critics Association press panel, Selena made the joke after being asked how she has changed her acting since then.
Selena replied, “I signed my life over to Disney at a very young age, so I didn't know exactly what I was doing.
"I was a kid and I didn't know what I was doing, I was just running around on set, and now I feel like a sponge and soak up as much wisdom as I can."
She said that she is now a much more “sophisticated” actress as she stars apart from her new co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short.
SELENA RIPS THE GOOD FIGHT
It comes after she recently called out The Good Fight for a “tacky” joke they made on her about her kidney transplant, as she also thanked fans for “having her back”.
Selena underwent the surgery in 2017 after contracting lupus, an autoimmune disease that causes the body to attack healthy parts of itself.
In the scene, Marissa (Sarah Steele), Jay (Nyambi Nyambi) and Jim (Ifádansi Rashad) gathered around as Jim printed “permission slips” to give to his co-workers.
Jim said they were so people could get a chance to make a controversial joke or two, but then Jay asked if there were any topics that were completely off limits.
Marissa replied, "No, that could be fun," as Jay added, "Autism."
Then Jim smiled and said, "Selena Gomez's kidney transplant."
In response, Selena said, "I'm not sure how writing organ transplant jokes for TV shows has become a thing, but sadly it apparently has."
"I hope that in the next writer's room, when one of these tasteless jokes comes along, it will be announced immediately and not aired."
She continued, “If you can, sign up to be an organ donor.”
In her new TV show, Only Murders in the Building, she plays a resident who teams up with her neighbors to solve a brutal crime at her apartment complex.
With Wizards of Waverly Place ending in 2012, it's been nine years since Selena last starred in a TV show, and she only reprized the role of her from Alex Russo's Disney for a 2013 film.
The Solo Murders in the Building trailer was recently released and teased the murder mystery that Selena, Steve, and Martin will be working to solve when the show drops on August 31.
Wanting to solve someone's murder in their building, a pair of true crime geeks, Charles and Oliver (Steve and Martin), start a podcast while working on the case, enlisting Mabel (Selena) to help them find the killer.
