Britney Spears has sent a 'cease and desist' letter ordering her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, to stop talking about her.
The singer's legal team wants Jamie Lynn to stop talking about the 40-year-old pop star's life and struggles when she gives interviews to promote her new memoir, 'Things I Should Have Said', which they say includes 'misleading claims'. and outrageous' about Britney.
The artist's attorney, Mathew Rosengart, wrote: "The last thing Britney wants is to draw further attention to her untimely book and her misleading or outrageous claims about her. Although Britney hasn't read and doesn't intend to, she and millions of her fans were shocked to see how [Jamie Lynn Spears] has exploited her for monetary gain. Britney won't stand for it, nor should she," she noted.
After years under a guardianship supervised by her father, Jamie Spears, the lawyer emphasized that Britney will no longer be "harassed" by anyone.
Jamie Lynn was accused of 'airing false or fantastic claims' to gain publicity for her book and warned that her sister will take further legal action if he continues to speak out about her and her feud.
The letter concluded: “Britney was the breadwinner in the family and she supported you too. She is wrong to publicly air false or fanciful complaints, especially when they are designed to sell books. It's also potentially illegal and defamatory.
You recently stated that her book was 'not about her'. She takes you at your word and therefore we demand that you stop referring to Britney in a derogatory way during your promotional campaign. If she does not or defames her, Britney will be forced to consider and take all appropriate legal action."
